Starting making plans now on how you can celebrate  Church of the Messiah’s 200th birthday.   Here are three gifts to choose from to help celebrate a really BIG birthday:

Our local Habitat for Humanity organization is building a home for a family in need.  We are  organizing 6 specific days where Church of the Messiah will be the volunteers in building this home.  Details are forthcoming on dates and specifics.  200 hours for 200 years.

Our local resource ministry called WARM helps so many people in need on a daily basis.  Our goal is to collect 2,000 pounds of food for WARM.  You can drop off your donations anytime between now and September 16th at the church.  Place the items in the 200th birthday crate located in the hallway.

Join us in offering humanitarian assistance to our friends in Cuba by donating money to buy 20,000 pounds of rice and beans.  Monetary donations can be placed in the offering plate and marked “Cuba food.”

Steps of Faith 5K & Food Drive September 16th

oin us this September for our 7th Annual Steps of Faith 5K Run/Walk & Food Drive at Alum Creek Park off of Main St in Westerville.

Steps of Faith 5K is a community event celebrating all abilities—whether you are able to run, walk, or wheel your way to the finish line. Steps of Faith was inspired by a central Ohio Run For God community with the simple desire to glorify God in all that we do. The event is an opportunity to encourage one another in fellowship to run our race (Hebrews 12:1). This year’s race carries additional meaning as part of the 200th birthday celebration of Church of the Messiah United Methodist. The event will take place not far from the original gathering site for this congregation along Alum Creek.

NEW THIS YEAR, a Food Drive is being organized at the race by Drew Reed, a scout from Boy Scout Troop 560 as his Eagle Project.   Participants and spectators are invited to bring food items. Collected food items will be donated locally to the food pantry at the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.). Our goal is to collect 2,000 lbs of food for our 200th celebration.

Music at the event will be provided by 104.9 The River!

All race proceeds will be distributed by Church of the Messiah United Methodist to support The Heinzerling Foundation and Bradley’s House of Hope, both working to engage & develop individuals with disabilities in a loving & nurturing environment.

Announcing Messiah's New Associate Pastor, Rev. Evette Watt

Church of the Messiah’s leadership board is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Associate Pastor, Evette Loper Watt. Evette grew up in the Methodist tradition and is passionate about the Word of God.  The following passage undergirds her life:

3 You have already been cleansed[b] by the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:3-5)

Evette worked as an attorney serving families and children in crisis for many years.  She responded to God’s call to ministry and pursued full-time seminary studies.  Evette is a Licensed Local Pastor and will be commissioned as a Provisional Elder at the West Ohio Annual Conference.  She looks forward to serving the Messiah family in the ministries of preaching, teaching, and pastoral care and counseling.  She has also served as a Chaplain in the hospital and hospice settings.
