John is a graduate of Pleasant High School in Marion. He received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University in 1978. Graduate studies in MA Music Education. John has twenty-seven years of teaching experience in Ohio public schools directing bands, choirs, and orchestra in north central Ohio. John directed University Chorus for OSU Marion for three years.

John has extensive experience as an accompanist, including....
University Chorus at OSU Marion; Marion production of The Messiah, and numerous community productions at the Palace Theater in Marion. He has served as music/choral director for several Marion Community Theater productions including Christmas at the Palace, The Mikado, Beauty and the Beast, Godspell.

John has played piano and trumpet for visiting artists including Bobby Vinton, Edwardo Reigo, Becky Keck, Marie Osmond, Cabot Rea and Ryan Ratliff . He worked with Anne Murray's production team for her performance in Marion in 2004.

John was selected to serve as Director for the Marion County Honor’s Choir in 2008 and again in 2012.

He is most passionate about leading music for worship. Beginning at age 16, John has played organ for numerous churches including St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Prospect U.M.C of Marion and St. John’s Lutheran Church of New Washington.

In 2002, his love of music and worship lead John to choose a career in church music. Since then, he has served as Music Director/Organist for Epworth U.M.C. in Marion; Jerome U.M.C. and First Presbyterian Church of Marion. His experience includes directing traditional choir, hand bells, children's choirs, orchestra, jazz band and praise band.

John is married to Nancy who is a retired educator. They have two children and six grandchildren. “I am honored and blessed to have been selected to be the organist and director of music ministries for Church of the Messiah. I pray that I am worthy of this task. I ask God to strengthen and enlighten me so that I may assist this vibrant community of believers.”
