Funerals

The Christian funeral is a witness to Christ's victory over the grave and affirms God's gift of eternal life. The funeral is a time to praise God for the gift of resurrection and grieve the loss of one dear to us. It is appropriate that those nurtured in the Church should be remembered in the sanctuary and be commended to God's care in the midst of the congregation.

Arrangement and Details

Your funeral director will generally make basic arrangements with the church and pastor. The pastors’ secretary will help with scheduling the building, pastors and musicians and give information about other services available through the church. On weekends, the pastor can assist with preliminary arrangements.

A current pastor leads funerals at Church of the Messiah and the Church of the Messiah music staff provides the music. Other clergy or musicians may assist them at the discretion of the Church of the Messiah staff.

The church will serve a light lunch in McVay Hall or the lounge after member funerals. Please notify the pastors’ secretary as soon as possible if this is desired and give an estimated number.
