Advent Bible Study - Faithful

faithful.jpg

Bible Study for the Advent Season – Adam Hamilton’s Faithful      l

Join us for a four-week study through the eyes of Joseph.  You’ll come to understand how Joseph’s place in the Nativity story is much like our own.  In life, we encounter circumstances that we would never have chosen for ourselves.  At times it can be tempting to walk away.  Joseph provides us a great example of humble obedience even when we don’t understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides.  Thursdays at 9:30 am or 7 pm in the chapel beginning November 30. Books available in the church office.

Chapter 3 - New Small Group Starting January 2018

Those interested in deepening their faith while enriching their spiritual lives will not want to miss being part of this new small group starting Tuesday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel.

This study will focus on chapter 3 (Who is God the Holy Spirit?) from the book Key United Methodist Beliefs by William J. Abraham and David F. Watson. Serve Breakfast at Church for All People

Church of the Messiah has a long standing ministry with Church For All People. On the third Sunday of each month, Messiah families prepare, deliver, and serve breakfast to ~130 neighbors at the Church For All People. For many of these folks it may be the only meal that they receive that day. We provide 10 casseroles, two large trays of Corned Beef Hash, three gallons of milk, apple juice, and orange juice, bananas, seasonal fruit, and paper products.  Breakfast servers arrive by 8:20AM, breakfast is served from 8:30AM, and worship follows afterwards at 9:15AM. To learn more about supporting the breakfast ministry, contact Mickey Cox 614-893-1569 or click on the link to signup  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/church81

Christmas in July!

Christmas in July

We all love receiving Christmas gifts but unfortunately, there are kids around the world who never have heard of Christmas, let alone received a gift. Operation Christmas Child is a ministry run by Franklin Graham in conjunction with Samaritan’s Purse that provides shoebox gifts to these under privileged children. This small shoebox can teach a child about the love of God, lead him or her to faith in Christ, inspire pastors, and plant new churches. What goes into the box is useful and fun, but what comes out is eternal. We invite you to be a part of changing lives through the power of a simple gift.

When we started this project, our goal was 100 boxes and we filled 120. Last year 181 boxes were filled. This year our goal is 200 boxes and I am confident that Messiah can do this.

The boxes will be available outside of the sanctuary on June 24 and 25. Included will be a label that includes ideas of what to pack, a coloring page, and a picture of the church so the recipient can see where the gift is coming from. The $7 fee will be covered so you don’t need to include it.

The boxes will be returned the weekend of July 28 and 29. We will have a Christmas celebration , sing Christmas hymns and enjoy some Christmas goodies.

Thank you,

Susie Hoff

Moebius

A "moebius" is “a continuous strip with no beginning and no end” and signifies for us the ongoing journey of spiritual exploration.   We are committed to open-mindedness and respectful consideration of a variety of perspectives.  Participants encourage active questioning, contemplation, and spiritual growth through the discussion of books and videos about theology, the history and doctrines of the church, biblical scholarship, Progressive Christianity, the Historical Jesus, and other related topics that emerge when “faith meets reason."  Volunteers share leadership responsibilities and bring refreshments; participants provide their own books for all of our studies.  We usually meet the 1st and 3rd Sundays from September 17 through April, 6:00-8:00 PM, in the Lounge of Church of the Messiah.   Our fall schedule is as follows:

Dec. 3 - Not in God's Name: Confronting Religious Violence, by Jonathan Sacks   OR   God of Love: A Guide to the Heart of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, by Mirabai Starr (Choose either book)

All are welcome for any or all sessions!

Write Night at Messiah

Write Night at Messiah

Join “Continue the Story” Mic Mohler and our very own Jess Kimmel at Messiah’s first Write Night! Thursday, November 16th from 6:30-8:00pm in the lounge.  A night where we come together and write those in prison. Sending them letters of encouragement, of hope, and friendship.

A single letter can truly uplift the lives of those in prison. Place a smile on the face of someone who may be filled with anxiety, hopelessness, and despair. Together, we can spread hope throughout the Ohio Prison System. We don't have to agree with why they ended up in prison, but those in prison still deserve to be treated as human beings. Help us show them they are more than a number.

This is an open door, come as you can, leave when you need to event.  Also, this is an all ages friendly event.  Please contact Jess Kimmel with any questions via jess_kimmel@yahoo.com.  Hope to see you there!

Grief Recovery Method 10-Week Group Program

The Grief Recovery Method® 10-session Support Group Program Responding to the addiction epidemic

The Action Program for those impacted by the epidemic of heroin, opioid and other drug addictions and fatalities

Whether your loss is from:

  • Death due to addiction

  • Divorce or end of a relationship due to drug behavior

  • Loss of trust, faith or safety due to drug seeking/using relationships

  • Loss of hopes, dreams and expectations for your loved one

  • As well as other losses

Your feelings are normal and natural. The problem is that we have been socialized to believe that these feelings are abnormal and unnatural.

Myths about grief:

  • Time heals all wounds

  • Replace the loss

  • Grieve alone

  • Be strong for others

  • Bury your feelings

People say you have to let go and move on in your life, but they don’t tell you what you need to do to accomplish that. The Grief Recovery Method® Outreach Program not only makes that possible, but provides partnerships and guidance to ensure that it happens.

THE 10-Session PROGRAM WILL MEET
